A lot is going on in the assisted living world, and keeping up may be a challenge! Please join Shelly Walstead RN, Public Health Advisor, as she discusses recent regulatory changes and what health facility surveyors are observing during licensure and complaint surveys.
Objectives:
- Review the most recent regulatory update to the Administrative Rules of South Dakota (ARSD) 44:70 (August 2023) and how it impacts the healthcare facility.
- Review the issues and citations observed by healthcare facilities in 2024.
Shelly Walstead is a registered nurse with experience in acute, long-term care, and telehealth. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in nursing degree from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City.
Shelly has been with the SD Department of Health, Office of License and Certification, since 2015 as a Health Facilities Surveyor. She joined the complaint department in 2018 and served as the complaint department advisor since November 2021. In February 2024, she accepted the position of public health advisor for assisted living centers, community living homes, residential living, and adult foster care.
