Overview: Research shows that there are everyday habits you can build today to help protect your memory and thinking as you get older-even reducing your risk of cognitive decline and possibly dementia. This program provides research-backed guidance on brain health and the importance of taking action to protect your brain health at every age. In this program, you will learn about healthy habits for your brain, including improving diet, increasing physical activity and improving sleep quality and how to overcome obstacles so that healthy habits become part of regular routines. This program details the 10 Healthy Habits for your Brain and highlights the latest research including recommendations from the US Pointer Study.
Objectives:
- Explain how brain health is important now and across your lifetime
- Recognize actions that can help protect brain health
- Develop a plan to build brain-healthy habits by applying what you have learned
Audience: general
Michelle Kutner is a licensed social worker who serves as the Program Director for the South Dakota Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Michelle has spent her career working in long-term care where she trained staff and provided support to families. In her current role, she provides information and support to individuals and families and recruits, trains and partners with program volunteers who facilitate support group meetings and deliver community education programs throughout the state of South Dakota. Michelle enjoys talking with different audiences about the importance of brain health and serves as a member of the SD Healthy Brain Coalition.
