Overview: Knowing where to turn for community resources can make all the difference when supporting patients, residents, clients, and families. Helpline Center University provides a practical introduction to South Dakota’s community resource network and the tools available to help you connect individuals with the right support.

In this session, you’ll learn about the Helpline Center’s history and core services, explore the 211 and 988 online community directories, and discover how to create customized resource guides tailored to the needs of the individuals and communities you serve.

We’ll also discuss the upcoming Medicaid changes under HR 1, including community service requirements beginning in January 2027, and how the Helpline Center’s resources can help you respond to questions and connect individuals with available community services.

Participants will leave with practical tools and resources they can use immediately to better navigate and connect others to services across South Dakota.
