This course will explore strategies for creating inclusive bereavement groups that are culturally responsive and accessible to underserved communities. Learn practical strategies to reduce barriers, build trust, honor diverse grief experiences, and foster spaces where all individuals feel seen, supported, and empowered in their grief journey.

Lisa Wasson from Hope Health will discuss the support and resources provided in their LGBTQ+ Caregiver Support Group. Claudia Reyes and Jenny Rivera-Cruz will share why and how they developed a Spanish-speaking grief support program for their community.

Objectives:

  • Name two differences between serving the Spanish-speaking Grieving Community and the English-speaking Grieving Community.
  • Identify 2-3 practices to overcome barriers of outreaching to Latino grieving communities.
  • Describe common barriers that underserved populations face in accessing grief support services and analyze their impact on health equity and patient-centered care.
  • Apply culturally responsive strategies to design and facilitate grief support groups that are
    inclusive, accessible, and aligned with the values of diverse communities.
