Expanding arts in health training for care teams across South Dakota. 

  • Creative Aging Principles with Older Adults

    Tuesday, May 19 | 1:30–3:00 PM CST

    Description: Learn the core principles of creative aging and how arts engagement supports wellbeing, cognitive stimulation, and social connection for older adults. This session focuses on simple, practical ways to design engaging, accessible programs.

    Objectives:
    - Understand the impact of creative aging on wellbeing
    - Learn how to design clear, accessible arts programs
    - Explore creative modalities: visual art, writing, music, and movement
    - Participate in a hands-on Care Crate activity, Frozen Poem.

  • Creative Self-Care for Caregivers in Aging Services

    Tuesday, June 16 | 1:30–3:00 PM CST

    Description: Explore how creative practice can support caregiver wellbeing. This session offers simple tools to reduce stress, prevent burnout, and strengthen team connection through creative expression.

    Objectives:
    - Recognize stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue
    - Learn simple creative practices for reflection and renewal
    - Explore ways to support staff wellbeing through the arts
    - Participate in a hands-on Care Crate activity, Barn Quilt Designs.

  • Arts Approaches for Memory Care, Hospice, and Assisted Living Settings

    Tuesday, July 14 | 1:30–3:00 PM CST

    Description: Discover how the arts can support individuals in memory care, hospice, and assisted living settings. Learn practical strategies to encourage engagement, reduce agitation, and support identity and connection.

    Objectives:
    - Understand how arts engagement supports cognitive change
    - Learn simple, flexible facilitation strategies
    - Explore activities that support expression and connection
    - Participate in a hands-on Care Crate activity, Wish Vases.

Target audience: Caregivers and staff in long-term care, assisted living and hospice 

CE: NHA & SW, certificate of attendance

Registration includes all three sessions and must be completed by the registration deadline on May 15.  Connection information for each session will be sent separately in advance of the session dates.

Presenter: Ariadne Albright, Director, Creative Care, LLC

Ariadne (Ari) Albright is an artist and traveler who has spent three decades creating narrative paintings that explore themes of identity and belonging. Born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Ariadne received her B.F.A. in Printmaking from the University of Washington and M.F.A. in Painting from the University of South Dakota (USD). Employed as an artist and art educator, Ari is the Arts Program Coordinator at Sanford Vermillion Medical Center (SVMC). She is a roster artist with the South Dakota Arts Council (SDAC), she initiated the arts in health curriculum at USD and serves as board member of the National Organization for Arts in Health (NOAH). A SDAC Artist Fellowship Grant sponsored her solo exhibition and visiting artist activities in Ankara, Turkey in 2015. Her first manuscript, An Artist in Healthcare is being “work-shopped” by editors. Ari resides in Vermillion, South Dakota with a cat, dog and sporadic visits from her college-age son, Cyrus.
