Overview: This session explores real-world insights from hundreds of recent daily and discharge room cleaning observations conducted in patient care areas. Attendees will gain a balanced understanding of key successes and ongoing challenges in environmental hygiene practices. The session will also examine the evolution of peer-reviewed literature related to cleaning compliance in both occupied patient rooms and discharge settings, highlighting emerging trends and evidence-based practices. In addition, participants will deepen their understanding of how various cleaning activities are performed, including their impact on high-touch surface disinfection, the potential for cross-contamination, and overall pathogen transmission risk.

Vydia Nankoosingh, works as an Infection Preventionist for Diversey- A Solenis Company, Healthcare division, North America. In this role, Vydia serves as an infection prevention and control resource and an industry liaison to support the improvement of environmental hygiene solutions and adoption of science-based best practices.
Vydia has a background in medical laboratory technology with 11 years of experience working in microbiology. She has been an Infection Control Professional for 25 years with experience in acute care, rehabilitation and long term care. Vydia was a member of the Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC), where infection prevention and control (IPAC) best practice guidelines are developed for the province of Ontario. From 2010 to 2023, she was manager of IPAC at Scarborough Health Network, 3 large community hospitals in Toronto, Ontario.
She is certified by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology.
