This session provides a comprehensive update for skilled nursing facilities related to recent categorical changes and their impact on practice. Participants will gain a clear overview of the updated Level I screening form, including its structure and implementation considerations, as well as the revised Level II outcomes. Through practical guidance and discussion, attendees will leave with the knowledge needed to apply these updates effectively, ensuring accurate assessments and improved outcomes.
Emily Johnson is a nurse consultant with South Dakota Medicaid, serving in the role as the PASRR program manager. In this role, she provides a broad range of technical assistance to providers on the PASRR process, Medicaid compliance, and quality assurance. Emily is also working towards redesigning the South Dakota PASRR program to ensure alignment with Federal regulations, enhance provider education, and streamline the overall process. She has over 13 years of nurse consultant service with State Government specializing in policy development, grant management, informatics, and quality assurance. Before joining South Dakota Medicaid, Emily served as Nurse Team Lead for the Department of Health where she oversaw nursing practice and services provided by the Community Health field offices in Central South Dakota. She also has had prior experience in PASRR, serving as the nurse consultant for the State Intellectual Disability Authority in 2015 -2016. Emily has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from South Dakota State University as well as a South Dakota Governor Leadership Graduate Certificate.
Ariel Ghanayem is an employee with Maximus serving in the role of Clinical Program Manager. Ariel brings nine years of clinical services experience, including six years of PASRR experience. She has worked extensively with individuals with mental health conditions, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse disorders. Ariel brings clinical expertise in conducting mental health assessments and supporting individuals’ integration into community settings. She currently serves as a Clinical Program Manager for North Dakota and South Dakota PASRR and also supports the North Dakota Childrens Treatment Services Level of Care Program. Previously, she provided quality assurance for our PASRR contracts in New York, Virginia, and Wisconsin. In her role as a Program Manager, she has collaborated with the State of North Dakota to establish and implement an annual review process for individuals with Medicaid, assisted South Dakota in updating their PASRR process and their Level I Screening form, offers clinical problem solving for Level I, Level of Care, and Level II assessments for all contracts, and assists and trains others in the PASRR process for various Maximus contracts. Ariel has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a Licensed Master Social Worker.
