Providing Hospice Care in the Long-Term Care Setting
Education
“Providing Hospice Care in the Long-Term Care Setting” is presented by Julie Sampson, Director of Hospice at Prairie Lakes Healthcare System.
According to Hospice CoP §418.112, hospices are required to provide hospice orientation to SNF/NF or ICF/IID facility staff that care for hospice patients. This orientation is to include the hospice philosophy/policies/procedures for comfort, pain control, symptom management, death and dying, individual responses to death, patient rights, appropriate forms and record keeping requirements.
While in-person training from a hospice agency may be best, it is not always possible to hold large, in-person training with your staff. LifeCircle-South Dakota’s Hospice and Palliative Care Network wanted to offer on-demand training to help hospices and facilities meet this requirement. This video, produced by SDAHO, can be used to provide that training to SNF/NF staff when in-person training is not an option.
