This session is intended to provide basic knowledge about the differences in vision loss and how to provide support to them in various environments or activities. Included in the session will be these
objectives:
- Learn the most common types of eye diseases
- Understand the broad differences with diseases and functional vision loss
- Understand the range of vision loss between severe vision loss and legally blind
Follow up information will be provided about Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired and what SBVI can do for individuals who qualify for services.
Presenter: Sandy Neyhart, Program Specialist, Services to the Blind and Visually Impaired
Sandy Neyhart is the Program Specialist with Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired (SBVI) in South Dakota where she is responsible for the Older Blind Independent Living Services program. In addition to the Older Blind Independent Living Services program activities and requirements, she also supervises five Rehabilitation Teachers who provide low vision and skills of blindness training throughout SD. She contributes to the SBVI leadership team which includes professional development activities for staff, annual reports for Rehabilitation Services Administration, reviews program policies, quality assurance activities and exploring avenues of continuous improvement.
