Join us for session 2 of the series "Becoming Comfortable with Buprenorphine and MOUD" with Dr. Uthe.
In Session 2, the discussion of incorporating Buprenorphine into clinical practice for persons with Opioid Use Disorders and/or Chronic Pain will be continued. We will explore challenges and obstacles experienced by clinicians in maintaining a practice that includes buprenorphine management.
Objectives:
- Reinforce the need to review benefits and risks of controlled substances at every visit and provide appropriate documentation in each encounter.
- Review challenges and obstacles experienced in the clinical setting when providing ongoing buprenorphine maintenance and management.
- Consider the impact of other health conditions on the approach taken in buprenorphine management.

The Role of Buprenorphine in the Clinical Setting: Latest research on buprenorphine use in other medical conditions
Craig Uthe, MD is a board-certified family physician with the American Board of Family Medicine and a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. He is the Medical Director of Professional Well-Being at Sanford Health and the Chief Well-Being Officer for the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine.
For over twenty-five years, Dr. Uthe has been a medical advisor to the SD Health Professionals Assistance Program, an organization that provides management services to health care professionals with potentially impairing illnesses & addictions.
Dr. Uthe and his wife, Joyce, have three grown children and, more importantly, two grandsons, Luciano and Leonardo, who they enjoy spoiling upon every opportunity.
